Progress vs Perfection
May 3, 2021It can be daunting to start a new goal when you have so many day to day responsibilities. You have to take care of your basic hygiene, take care of your significant other, take care of your children, take care of your pets, feed everyone, go to work, perform at work, come home, have a social life, take care of where you live, take care of those once a year tasks, then enjoy yourself before you go to bed amd repeat yourself over and over. It’s exhausting to say the least. How do you find a way to take on a new significant challenge that you want to do well at?
You focus on progress versus perfection. I love starting new projects. The enthusiasm is addictive. Sticking to those projects can be difficult and has been a major downfall of mine in the past. I will get started and keep at it for a couple of weeks only to stop. I then abandon the said project for the next project that seems interesting. Over the last three months, I’ve started to focus on sticking with the projects I’ve started regardless of the progress made. I’ve come to accept that not all is lost even if I haven’t work on the project over a few days or even a few weeks. Life can take over and that’s okay. It’s accepting the fact that it’s going to take some to get back into it and stick with it.
I’ve had a lot of big life changes in a short amount of time. Those big changes have had a serious impact on the time I have to invest into my personal projects. Thankfully I’ve come to accept that not all is lost. I can pick up with where I left off and rebuild my commitment to my personal projects.
Most people would love to start a new project and execute flawlessly until they achieve it (myself included). These days, thanks to social media it seems that some people do. The reality is that most of us are going to battle back and forth until we get our desired results from our personal project.
